.: Meeting on Innovation and Society in the Mediterranean Region, Marseille, November 18, 2008

In the context of the second edition of the Mediterranean Economic Week from November 17 to 22, the World Bank office in Marseilles is organizing a seminar on November 19 (2.30 pm - 5.30 pm; Salle MPM, Palais du Pharo) which will focus on innovative initiatives in Southern Mediterranean countries.

Illustrative of such initiatives, examples will be provided at different societal levels and from various countries. It is currently planned to have presentation of:

  • The national program initiated in Morocco for fighting against poverty: Presentation of the Initiative Nationale pour le Développement Humain by Mrs. Nadira El Guermai, deputy Coordinator;
  • The Rural renewal development plan in Algeria by Mrs. Fatiha Djehiche, Advisor to the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development of Algeria;
  • The challenge of youth and employment generation in MENA: the experience of Education for Employment (EFE) by Salvatore Nigro, CEO;
  • Broad cultural issues to bridge identities between the South and North of the Mediterranean Sea by Slimane Benaissa, Algerian playwright.

    These presentations largely based on personal and concrete experiences will be followed by discussions with the audience. The meeting will be moderated by Jean-Eric Aubert, manager of the WB Marseilles office.
